In fact, Mercedes is one of the most successful teams in recent Formula One history thanks to a number of awards they’ve won from 2014 to 2017. Currently, the team is involved in Formula One as a constructor. They are currently known by the name Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Motorsport

The history of Mercedes in Formula One went as far back as 20th century. The German government at the time pumped money into Mercedes and rivals Auto Union with an aim to build the most technically-advanced racing machines the world had seen.

However, after the Second World War, the team was not allowed to compete in the race until the Mid-fifties. During this time, Maserati driver Juan Manuel Fangio competed under the Mercedes brand in 1954 and won the world title for the first time for Mercedes.

Fangio was joined by Stirling Moss in 1955 and again he won the second title for Mercedes. However, the title was withdrawn following an incident in which one of the drivers, Pierre Levegh crashed into the crowd killing himself and more than 80 spectators. As a result of this incident, Mercedes withdrew from all motor racing competition and would not return until the 1980s.

Mercedes had coming back.

Mercedes returned to Formula One as an engine supplier to Sauber in 1993. The company switched teams to McLaren and won championships with them in 1998, 1999, as well as in 2008. Currently, Mercedes has collected over 160 wins as an engine supplier. It is currently ranked fourth in the history of Formula One.

In 2009, Mercedes made a deal to supply engine to the Brawn team, this resulted to wins in both the driver’s and constructor’s championships. In 2010, following the win a year earlier, the manufacturer returned as a full constructor to Formula One.
In 2012, Mercedes called Michael Schumacher back from retirement to drive for the team. However, another driver Nico Rosberg was the one who gave Mercedes their first win in China in 2012.

In the 2013 season, Lewis Hamilton replaced Schumacher and the team has dominated the championship since them. Thanks to Lewis Hamilton and the rest of the team, Mercedes have taken 18 pole positions and about 16 wins. It should be noted that 11 out of these 16 wins were scored by Lewis Hamilton.
